Kyoto Protocol

Kyoto protocol is an international agreement linked to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is a protocol aimed at reducing the greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere to tackle global warming and fight climate change. The protocol was adopted in 1997 but came into force in 2005.

Under this protocol, the Annex I countries (mostly industrialized countries) has a binding commitment to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and collectively reduce the emission by 5.2% from the 1990 level.
